A DPF filters tiny soot particles out of a diesel’s exhaust while letting the gases through. When it fills up, it regenerates: the soot is burned off and the filter is ready again.
Why we need them
- They cut particulate emissions a lot, for cleaner air
- Euro 5 rules (since 2009) made them standard on modern diesel cars
Keeping your DPF healthy
- Give it a longer run at speed now and then if you mostly do short trips
- Keep up with servicing
- Use the oil your engine is specified for
Warning light on, or losing power? Bring it in and we’ll check it.
